Above All, Be Kind is a book written for parents on how to teach and raise their children to become responsible and respectful citizens of the earth.
The author, Zoe Weil, is the co-founder and President of the International Institute for Humane Education and has educated and trained hundreds of people from activitists, students to teachers on how to become human educators. She is also on the faculty of the University of Maine and Cambridge College. .
She begins her book by discussing the best qualities of human beings and gives tools to raise a humane child: a child who is not materialistic or cynical or chases the latest fads, but warm, kind, courageous and respectful to family, friends, the communities, animals and nature. The different chapters address the different ages and age-related issues, from early age to middle age to teenager and young adult. The different chapters include activity ideas, tips and strategies.
By raising humane children, we can all do our part to create a more peaceful and healthy world.

I agree that this is a great book. I’ve recommended it to many of my friends who are parents, and even as someone who doesn’t have children, I’ve discovered numerous useful insights for engaging children in humane issues.
